The article shows the necessity to divide soil total potassium pool into separate fractions to assess potassium availability to plants and justifies different approaches to recover various potassium forms from soil by extraction, describing extraction methods. The author proposes the extended system to classify soil potassium forms based on the strength of potassium binding to soil minerals.
